We consider this analysis methodologically sound — pre-registered, multi-database, and openly accessible. The review concluded that an oral HMB supplementation can improve muscle mass, strength, and body function. The most pronounced effects were observed in the 50–65 age group. A dose with HMB-Ca at 3 g/day dominated studies cited in this paper.

In older adults with sarcopenia, muscle strength, physical performance, muscle quality, and reduced inflammatory factors are all improved by adding HMB to resistance exercise training. The relatively modest sample size and single-center design are the primary limitations, but the double-blind, placebo-controlled structure supports its credibility. The form used was HMB-Ca at 3 g/day.
Overall Assessment
As shown above, the strongest and most independent evidence comes from meta-analyses and systematic reviews published in open-access academic journals with no known industry sponsorship. These publications consistently, if cautiously, support one conclusion: HMB — primarily in the calcium salt at 3 g/day — meaningfully preserves and improves muscle mass and strength, particularly in older adults, sarcopenic populations, and individuals under catabolic stress.
